Take a deep breath in and exhale out, take a deep breath in again while lifting your arms up above your head and stretch, exhale out and lower your arms.
That’s how movement starts, with a simple single stretch. Once you get going, be so dedicated that it’s hard for you to stop. One of the goals of our wellness initiative is to offer neighborhood focused physical activity for everyone and keep the community moving!
Fall 2021 we hosted our first Pilot – Community Wellness Walking Clinic and we kicked off the Virtual Community Wellness Yoga, January 2022. Stay connected with Hope Village 360 on all social media platforms to stay active, up to date and moving with us all 2022.
Why Movement Is Important
We sit still way too much! Excess sitting- whether it be at a desk at work or watching TV, is now linked with many diseases and conditions. Sitting too much can contribute to obesity, hypertension, back pain, cancer, cardiovascular disease and depression. Most Americans sit for 13-15 hours every day, so these health issues are becoming a big deal. Here’s the good news- there are really simple ways to incorporate movement into your everyday life.
- Set yourself a reminder to stand and move and least once every hour
- Take a walk over lunch
- Walk during phone calls
- Park a little further from the store entrance to get some extra steps
- Walk around your house when doing routine things like brushing your teeth
- If you have a dog, make sure to take them on a daily walk
